One day it will have to be officially admitted
that what we have christened reality
is an even greater illusion
than the world of dreams.
- Salvador Dali
If the dream is a translation of waking life,
waking life is also a translation of the dream.
- Rene Magritte

From the Artist About the Andscapes series:
These paintings seek to celebrate the illogical, the whimsical, the impossible-to-reach interiors. Working with the sensory experiences of childhood, landscape and the body, I am attempting to intertwine and turn each on its head, creating settings of subconscious familiarity.
Though I enjoy digging into the crevices of the mind, I just as fervently believe that art is simply fun. In a contemporary art scene twisted up in seriousness, social justice, deep philosophical meaning and politics, I often feel that every last drop of ridiculousness and laughter is dismissed as invalid. I seek to restore importance to the giggle, the hokey pokey, and the childlike dreams that I feel are unsung in a time when our society could benefit from them most.
When I am alone, I like to make silly faces in the mirror and high-pitched squealing sounds. With a silent salute to Dali’s twisted worlds and Magritte’s overthrow of logic, these paintings allow me the same delightful presence of mind and expression of energy in the public sphere. They can be seen as a series of slightly dark, open-ended riddles or as lengthy studies of the world inside my belly button.
With this body of work, I am a six-year-old on the swings again, singing loudly with my pink flowered underwear showing and a purple band-aid on my knee. This series is, in essence, a nod and a wink to the fringe-trimmed weirdo inside.
